The short version
- This website does not use cookies, advertising trackers or analytics.
- If you email us, we use your message only to reply and to do what you asked.
- We never sell or share your information for marketing.
What we collect and why
When you visit the website
Our website is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, so that it can deliver the site and protect it from attacks. We rely on our legitimate interest in running a secure website. We do not use this information to identify you.
When you email us
If you email us, including to register for the State of AI survey, we receive your email address, your name if you give it, and anything you choose to tell us. We use it to reply and, if you registered, to tell you when the survey opens. We rely on our legitimate interest in answering you, or on your consent where you ask to hear from us. Our email is provided by Fastmail.
The State of AI survey
The survey asks about your business: its sector, size, location and how it approaches AI. We use your answers to produce the report, relying on our legitimate interest in carrying out and publishing research. Answers are only ever published as combined figures, and written answers are quoted only if you tick the box allowing an anonymous quotation.
Giving your name, business name and email address is optional. If you do, we store them separately from your answers and use them only for what you asked: to send you the report, to name your business as a contributor, or to get in touch if you said you would like to hear more. We rely on your consent for this, and you can withdraw it at any time by emailing us.
We do not record your IP address with your answers. While you are filling in the survey, your progress is saved in your own browser, not on our systems, so you can come back to it. Your contact details are never saved there. Your answers are stored by Cloudflare on our behalf.
We keep contact details until the report has been sent and, if you asked to be named as a contributor, until the report is published. We keep answers, without contact details, so we can compare results between editions.
How long we keep it
We keep emails only for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry, and survey registrations until the survey has closed, unless you ask us to keep you informed about future editions. You can ask us to delete your details at any time.
Who else sees it
Only the service providers who run our website and email on our behalf: Cloudflare for hosting and survey storage, and Fastmail for email. Some of these providers may process data outside the United Kingdom, in which case they use the legal safeguards UK data protection law requires.
Your rights
You have the right to ask for a copy of your information, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to withdraw consent at any time. Email [email protected] and we will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this notice
We will update this notice as the website grows, and change the date at the top when we do.
